With the autumn breeze comes great news - Bokbar proudly presents our second exhibition of the year. This time, we paired up with the brilliant Swedish illustrator and artist Amanda Åkerman. Based in Gothenburg, her paintings and drawings are inspired by her immediate surroundings, books and films. Notable commissions include cover illustrations for Swedish editions of works by Albert Camus and work for children’s book award Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
Two great literary works are at the center of this exhibition - The Little Horses of Tarquinia by Marguerite Duras (1953) and The Antarctica of Love by Sara Stridsberg (2018). The novels drift between past and present, dream and reality all while evoking a sense of melancholy. While Duras’ story unfolds on the idyllic, sun drenched beach of a small Italian village, Stridsberg world takes place on a much darker, muddier shore. Throughout a series of illustrations, drawings and paintings, Åkerman explores and interprets these two narratives, giving them another dimension with her minimalistic and colorful palette.
